LinkShares Upgrade – Exciting New Features for Version 5

April 8th, 2010

[Site Update: 1/Apr/2010]

LinkShares has been upgraded to version 5, and lots of stuff have changed; e.g. you can now invite your friends and earn more.

Summary of Updates

  • Some links were purged, with the introduction of a quality control team that comprises humans and lexical programs.
  • The link directory structure has been modified. It now uses new categories and has shed old ones.
  • Each member now has a profile page [linkshares.net/username] to describe themself and list the links they have posted.
  • Members can now comment on links and earn bonus points (bp’s) from doing this and other activities on the site.

Bonus Point System (BPS)

We have created the BPS and implemented a ranking system for all LinkSharers. You earn bp’s from different activities you engage in, e.g. viewing, rating and commenting on links, as well as posting of your own links. Based on your activities your ranking on the site is calculated periodically. You also have the option to cash in some of your bp’s to actual funds in your account.

We are currently calculating the first ranking list and will update your profile pages with the various ranking points. LinkSharers who are ranked in the top 10 or so will be featured on the home page, and this will update daily.

Friend Invite

You can invite your friends from various email programs, and earn from their earnings. Remember, it continues like that when they invite others; so, be first to get as many of the friends in your network! The invite app is at: www.linkshares.net/invite

Feedback

As customary, lots of these updates were influenced by users of the site and we do appreciate your continued input and support. Feel free to express yourself to us, we have the kindest staff in cyberspace :)

LinkShares Joins AddThis as an Official Sharing Service

March 19th, 2010

AddThis is the most popular sharing platform on the Internet, reaching over 600 million users monthly, and is used by over 800,000 websites sharing to 200 different services.

  • Starting today, March 19th, you’ll see LinkShares included in the AddThis sharing platform. You’ll be able to share your favourite URLs to us from almost a million websites that have the AddThis button, and earn a bonus from each link that you share this way.
  • Here is a working sample of the AddThis button:    Bookmark and Share
  • We’re now officially a part of the AddThis Service Directory, among Facebook, Digg, Twitter and other similar services worldwide; but of them all, LinkShares is still unique in the sense that you earn while you share. (See http://www.addthis.com/services/detail/linkshares)
  • When you’re sharing to LinkShares for the first time, hover over the AddThis menu and click on the “more” link to get a longer list of the services available. Find us and click to share.
  • Because the AddThis menu is smart, the next time that you want to share to us from AddThis, you’ll see that we’re listed in the compact menu. From then on you’ll be able to share to us with just one click.
  • Want to put AddThis on your page to share to us from your own website? It’s quite easy. Just go to www.addthis.com and create your AddThis button right on the home page.
  • AddThis has worked hard with their community to help get their menu translated into 60 languages. If they’re missing a language or if you have a correction, you can submit it yourself. (www.addthis.com/languages)*   Finally, you guessed it, you don’t need to login to share again.
If you have any questions about this or any other feature, contact our Support Team with support@linkshares.net at any time of day.

LinkShares would like to thank our community for the support and for making this service a success. Keep sharing, keep earning!

P.S. – COMING SOON: an SMS service where you can get your account updates directly to your mobile without logging in. We are also making some changes to the site to provide space for more social activity.

To keep abreast with what’s going on, keep logged on to our official blog (http://blog.linkshares.net/).

Vybz Kartel Abandons Gaza/Gully Peace Concert

December 2nd, 2009

The ‘I Come In Peace’ stage show aimed at closing the divide between ‘Gaza’ and ‘Gully’ supporters was missing a key element last Friday, but the organiser believes the objective was met.

Vybz Kartel, who THE STAR was told was previously booked for another show, did not turn up for the concert at the Port Henderson Beach in Portmore, which was to be a symbol of unity between himself and music rival Mavado.

“Mavado came and performed great. Kartel did not turn up but they played a whole ton of his song to show the coming together,” said Dr Japheth Ford, Chairman of the National Action Coalition.

Vybz Kartel’s publicist Claude Mills said while they had been informed of last Friday’s show, they had not confirmed a performance as Kartel was previously booked for another show.

Violence free

Dr Ford said the concert was violence-free and the police was co-operative, allowing the event to run until daybreak.

Prior to the concert, Dr Ford had said he would put on another concert in Kingston if Vybz Kartel failed to attend last Friday’s.

“We want to put on one (concert) on Mavado’s side. The problem we are having is finding the venue that is big enough. We haven’t spoken to him (Vybz Kartel) since. I think the next time he will come,” Ford told THE STAR.

“This sets the stage for moving forward. Everything good, everything positive. We are moving where we want to move. Everybody is looking to come together.”

During his performance, Mavado was joined onstage by fellow ‘Gully artistes’ Flexxx, Kibaki and Chase Cross. Veterans Echo Minott and Professor Nuts also performed.

There has been increased national attention on Vybz Kartel and Mavado over the last few months, as several social disturbances have been linked to the Gully/Gaza feud.

Reverend Herro Blair, head of the Peace Management Initiative, recently met with Mavado and Vybz Kartel on separate occasions and expects to meet with them again soon.

“I met with Vybz last Tuesday and met with Mavado the week before. I expect to meet with both of them and their management sometime during the course of this week,” Blair said.

He was, however, reluctant to state what was discussed in the meeting and how the artistes plan to resolve their differences.

Mavado’s manager, Julian Jones-Griffiths also attended the meeting but was not willing to say much either.

“Me, him (Blair) and Mavado, we discussed some ideas for ways we could move forward. I don’t really want to get into specifics as yet,” he said.

Dr Ford also told THE STAR he has plans to have a meeting with both artistes in the near future.

LinkShares Anti-Scam Statement Release

December 1st, 2009

It has come to our attention that some would be users of the LinkShares.net service are scaring others away by the usual superficial tagging of the service as a scam. The core of the service allows you to create links to your content and post them elsewhere on the web, and you are paid when they are accessed by others. Some complaints received so far refer to the strict security rules embedded into the system, but we continue to hold that these regulations are quite necessary for the best benefit of all members involved.

You can learn more about how the system works at: http://linkshares.net/tour?fr=prl2

Our system is well developed and streamlined to serve you efficiently and easily. The principal objective was to implement all functional & security features before launching the service, to ensure that all business related to the operations of the website are transparent and scientific. As a provider, we make a promise to all beneficiaries of the service to maintain high integrity, privacy and reliability of all system components.

We also have a dedicated rotating customer service so that your issues can be answered at any time and we can all have a smooth relationship. You are invited to contact us with your concerns as we believe that support for our users is an integral part of the operations.

Our advice to those who are in doubt of the service is to signup and start posting some links, then observe their account and see it working for themselves.

Last but not least, don’t forget to familiarise yourself with our policies.
